L.C. Bird running back Shedrick McCall (6-1, 245) pulled in his first of what should be many college offers this week when Old Dominion extended a scholarship to him.
A recent visit to James Madison University is the first of many planned visited for the rising senior – he has been invited to visit the campuses of Purdue, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Richmond, East Carolina and North Carolina State, according to this father.
McCall was primarily the reserve running back for coach David Bedwell in 2015 behind senior J.B. Wright. On just 81 carries, McCall rushed for 733 yards and ten touchdowns. He also caught a 33-yard touchdown pass for a score.
While his size attracts bigger programs, his speed is something that’s come along – McCall recently clocked a 4.68 40 yard-dash. While he’s prone to bowl some people over, if he can get around players more effectively, it could be a long season for Dominion District foes once again in 2016.
The rising senior burst onto the scene as a freshman at Meadowbrook, gaining attention for producing his first 100-yard game. The next season, McCall transferred to Matoaca before finding a home at L.C. Bird. In 2016, he will very likely be slotted first on the Skyhawks depth chart at running back where he’ll look to continue the great lineage of L.C. Bird backs.
