Former L.C. Bird linebacker and Virginia Tech standout Deon Clarke graduated as a Hokie this past May. Now, he’ll be a bird of flight. The All-ACC performer signed as an undrafted free agent with the Seattle Seahawks.
He said via his Facebook page:
“From little league to the blue and white and L.C. Bird high, to the maroon and orange at Tech, [I’ve] been waiting for this moment,” Clarke said. “#foryoumom.”
On his big day, Clarke paid tribute to his mother, Deborah who lost her battle with cancer with Deon was just nine years old.
The former Skyhawk started 24 of 25 games for Va. Tech during his junior and senior seasons. As a junior, he had his finest season statistically with 74 tackles (11 TFL), five sacks, 11 quarterback hurries and an interception. His senior season was no disappointment has he garned 77 tackles (10.5 TFL) to go with three sacks.
Now, Clarke will head to rookie mini-camp with the goal of making the Seahawks’ roster. If he succeeds, he will join Jason Snelling (Atlanta), Doug Chapman and Anthony Harris (Minnesota) as Skyhawks to ascend to the NFL.
