During the White Cane fund raising event on May 6 and 7, the Chester Lions Club met their monetary goal and the members met many wonderful supporters from the community. Many of those generous people are friends of members of the Lions and all are very kind-hearted. There are always citizens who have stories about some earlier personal experience with Lions. The stories are accounts of times when they or a family member or perhaps just a friend were recipients of services provided by a Lions club.
Pictured with Ralph Jones is of one of those recipients. When Carol Tillar was in the fifth grade in Jackson, Ohio, the local Lions club provided her with an eye exam and glasses. Those glasses enabled her to have an easier and more productive time in school as she furthered her education.
All of the money collected during the White Cane fund raiser goes to provide eye exams, glasses, hearing tests, and hearing aids for those less fortunate citizens in this local area. There are no administrative fees for any of the activities provided by the Chester Lions.
Old eye glasses were also collected at the tables for use primarily through Lions International. Lions is the largest service organization in the world. Used eye glasses can be dropped off anytime at the green mail boxes at the South door of the Bermuda Square Kroger’s store on Jefferson Davis Hwy or on Centre Street in front of Well’s Realty.
