Gov. Terry McAuliffe and the Virginia Board of Education recently honored 11 Chesterfield County schools with 2016 Virginia Index of Performance awards for advanced learning and achievement.
Midlothian Middle was one of just eight schools across the state and the only school in central Virginia to earn the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence (GAEE). To earn this top award, schools must meet all state and federal achievement benchmarks and achieve all applicable excellence goals for elementary reading, enrollment in Algebra I by the eighth grade, enrollment in college-level courses, high school graduation, attainment of advanced diplomas, increased attainment of career and industry certifications and, if applicable, participation in the Virginia Preschool Initiative.
Eight Chesterfield schools earned Board of Education Excellence Awards: Gordon Elementary, Grange Hall Elementary, Greenfield Elementary, Robious Elementary, Bettie Weaver Elementary, Winterpock Elementary, Woolridge Elementary and Cosby High. Statewide, 104 schools won this award for meeting all state and federal accountability benchmarks and making significant progress toward goals for increased student achievement and expanded educational opportunities set by the Virginia Board of Education.
Two Chesterfield schools earned Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Awards: Swift Creek Elementary and Midlothian High. Statewide, 166 schools won this award for meeting all state and federal benchmarks and making progress toward the goals of the governor and the state board.
