“Wake up Otto, wake up,” said Safety Officer Micky Grodski at the Chester Library on Friday. Otto, a talking miniature car, participated in the bus safety event conducted by Grodski for children entering kindergarten and riding a school bus for the first time.

Nearly 30 children attending got a kick out of the talking car, and they kept their eyes and ears on Grodski as she went over safety concerns when riding the school bus.

In brief, the 20-minute presentation stressed to the children to be prepared for when the bus arrives with everything they need for school, that the school bus driver is the boss of the bus, there is no running to the bus stop, to remember the danger zone around the bus and to stay five big steps away from the bus, line up in single file when getting on the bus, to have no hands or arms outside the window, to  not throw things on the bus, and to listen to the crossing guard.

After Otto read “I’m Your Bus” to the children, they watched a short movie, “Pooh’s Great School Bus Adventure,” then it was time for their first trip inside a bus.
