We are seeing more rezoning applications and submitted site plans along the Iron Bridge Road corridor than in a long time, said a Chesterfield County planning official.
Four site plans have been submitted for a retail center, restaurants and grocery stores.
Aldi, a discount grocer, continues to work on its new store near the Kroger grocery on Iron Bridge Road only one-quarter of a mile from the Kroger Market Place.
Kroger has taken notice to new discount grocery stores. According to Super Market News, officials at the Kroger Mid-Atlantic Division announced that prices on thousands of items have been lowered at its 120 stores in Virginia and surrounding states.
One of latest kids on the block is Lydl, a discount grocer much like Aldi, which will be on Iron Bridge Road just one-quarter mile south of Aldi between Ironbridge Boulevard and Ironbridge Parkway. The entrance to the store parking lot will be from Ironbridge with traffic exiting at the rear of the parking lot onto Ironbridge Lane.
Lydl has submitted a site plan for another store on the northwest corner of Iron Bridge and Cogbill roads.
It will be located on the former Chesterfield FOP property. Lydl operates over 10,000 stores across Europe. With its no-frills concept, it could give Aldi a run for their money.
Development, north and south of the Chesterfield Government Complex, is busy. Another new development is about to devour the property north of the Wawa convenience station. Four retail spaces are planned as well as a restaurant, Popeyes Fried Chicken.
Another retail and office development site plan has been submitted at Chesterfield’s planning department. Surrounding the office of W.S. Carnes Inc., proposed are five separate buildings shown on the site plan featuring a possible restaurant and a total of 40,821 sq. ft., the largest of the four developments covered here.
Arby’s Roast Beef Restaurant has slowed progress on their proposed restaurant on Iron Bridge Road. The Arby’s franchiser, Restaurateur Inc. is located in Richmond. No start date or other information is available. Village News reported an Arby’s would be built here. When, has now become unclear.
