Comic Con: Meadowdale Library set to bring comic book characters to life at annual event on Saturday

NORTH CHESTERFIELD – Pull out your capes, boots, lightsabers, wings, horns, trench coats and sonic screwdrivers – it’s time for Comic Con. Chesterfield County Public Library will host its sixth annual Chesterfield Comic Con on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Meadowdale Library, 4301 Meadowdale Blvd, North Chesterfield.

It’s a cosplay extravaganza, with a costume contest, costume prizes, food and games and new this year, an art contest and an exhibition of works by local students to celebrate the art of comic book illustration.
Participants can come dressed as their favorite comic book, science fiction or movie character and visit more than 15 vendors selling or showcasing items including comic collectibles, comic books and comic art. The family-friendly event will have snacks for sale, an art station and three photo booth stations with life-size props, like Jabba the Hutt.

Costume contest schedule is: noon to 12:30 p.m. kids 12 and under, 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. adults (18 and older), 1 to 1:30 p.m. Group (two or more), and 1:30 to 2 p.m. teens (13-18). Registration begins at 10 a.m.
Vendors participating are: \author Judith Howell of Swamp Series, Simply Fabulous Finds, Merlin’s Apprentice, Richmond Fantasy, Comic Décor, Redmond Collectibles, Big John and Sons Comics and Cards, Helen’s Wizard Wands, Cosby High School Sci-Fi Club, RavenCon, Richmond Comix, O Amanda Panda, Eclipse Pop, 21st Century Sand Shark Studios, Word of Mouth Comics and Richmond Steampunk Society.

Reports are they will have tons of comics and merchandise for sale, as well as thousands of graphic novels you can check out with your library card. The goal of the Chesterfield Comic Con is to support literacy, learning and creativity through comics, graphic novels and visual storytelling.
