Fashion Al Fresco – or fashion out in the open air – was the theme of the Woman’s Club of Chester’s 2018 Annual Fashion Show. The April 7 event showcased new outfits from Peebles Department Store to an audience of more than 100 patrons.

The club hosted the benefit at Chester Baptist Church to raise money for three scholarships for local high school seniors.

Fashion show participants introduced new spring fashions and evening wear. The outfits ranged from crop pants and florals to black cocktail dresses and pastel sweaters. They showed off the newest fashions, and the hot colors seemed to be yellow and a light blue or aqua.

Models “floated” through the facility showing off their outfits. Participants included: Barbara Micou, Sadie Benton, Ann Prichard, Arlene Ripp, Cindy Williams, Doris Brody, Peggy Maloy, Janie Hughes and Pat Arthur. Kiara Lewis represented the youth in a sporty romper set and blue jeans and top.

The experience was hampered a little by the unusually cold temperatures, but everyone enjoyed the fashions and the idea of sandal wearing coming soon as they looked over the tops, pants and skirts. The ladies of the club created an open-air theme in the large room at the church with high ceilings, bistro furniture and a theme of red-and-white checked accessories.

Door prizes were supplied by many local businesses. A luncheon followed with food provided by Fishes and Loaves.

Kellie Benton said the club has “been putting this show on forever, for more than 10 years, and it’s always a great time.” President Marion George said the club is a great opportunity for women in the Chester area to serve their community. “We are always looking for new members and trying to grow our group,” she added.

Membership is available for women interested in serving the community. Inquiries can be sent to: Woman’s Club of Chester, P.O. Box 3074, Chester, VA 23831.
