Obituary: William Richard King

King, William Richard CAPT USN (Ret) of Chester, Va., went to be with the Lord while surrounded by family on Jan. 28, 2019.

His family and friends will miss his playful sense of humor, warm smile and his sparkling blue eyes. He was born in Tomahawk, Wis., on Sept. 3, 1928 and was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, LaVerne King; his parents, Wilbur and Evelyn King; and his only brother, Robert King.

He is survived by his three daughters Nancy Murphy (Kevin), Barbara Edwards (Bruce) and Kathy King.

Additional survivors include four grandchildren, Heather Murphy, Jenny Murphy, Jonathan Edwards (Laura) and Krista Simpson (Jason); six great- grandchildren, Kassie, Lexi, Soren and Benson Simpson and John and Samantha Edwards, three nieces, Becky Szymonski, Judy Nowak (Ted) and Laureen Mueller (Wayne), and three nephews, David King, Dan Chase (Gail) and Andy Chase (Julie).

A celebration of Bill’s life will be conducted at Grace Lutheran Church, 13028 Harrowgate Road, Chester on Feb. 16, 2019 at 2 p.m. followed by interment in the Grace Memorial Garden Columbarium.
