Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound.
It’s hard to believe that we are almost through the month of July. I have to admit that I was never a big soccer fan. Where I grew up, we had the basic sports: baseball, football, basketball and track. Soccer was something for the big city folks to do. However, I watched the women’s World Cup lately. I have gained respect for soccer. One observation though, there are a lot of “headers,” and some have real heat behind them (not counting the occasional head-on-head collisions), and yet there does not appear to be any concern expressed about concussions.
Then there was one other observation: the crowd chanting “USA” and holding hundreds of flags and all decked out in red, white and blue clothing. Some off-site locations were shown as well, filled with chanting fans, many decked out in the flag colors and cheering their lungs out. So how come it appears that we cannot generate that kind of response for our country on a daily basis, vs. primarily at a sporting event? Disregard who is in office or whether you are a Democrat or Republican; we live in an amazing country. We should all recognize that we are not perfect, but what country is? Why do we allow so many to look at the glass half-empty vs. half-full? Negativity seldom generates an upward spiral. So help turn this boat around and look for the good and build on that to make it even better. Stand up and be counted, goes the saying. The candle under the basket sheds no light. I pray that God will continue to shed His grace on this great country from sea to shining sea.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
“God bless America, land that I love; stand beside her and guide her through the night with a light from above.” – Irving Berlin
SMILES
A shoplifter was caught red-handed trying to steal a watch from an exclusive jewelry store. “Listen,” said the shoplifter. “I know you don’t want any trouble either. What do you say I just buy the watch, and we forget about this?” The manager agreed and wrote up the sales slip. The crook looked at the slip and said, “This is a little more than I intended to spend. Can you show me something less expensive?”
The veterinarian told the blonde that her dog needed some exercise. “You need to make sure the dog runs around,” the doctor said. “Try playing a game of fetch.” “I can’t play fetch with my dog,” the blonde said. “Why not?” the doctor replied. “Because,” she said. “He can’t throw.”
An amateur photographer was invited to dinner with friends and took along a few pictures to show the hostess. She looked at the photos and said, “These are very good! You must have a good camera.” He didn’t make any comment, but as he was leaving to go home, he said, “That was a really delicious meal! You must have some very good pots.”
That is all I have for today. As always, be good, do good, play safe, and remember: we are all in the same boat.
