Thomas Dale 58, Cosby 0
Thomas Dale was nothing short of extraordinary Friday, shutting out Cosby 58-0 in an electrifying effort on both sides of the football.
Running back Chris Tyree led an exhilarating offensive display as he rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns and returned a punt 95 yards for a score.
Dale’s defense was on par as well, as Cosby reached past the 50-yard-line just once. The stout defense featured back-to-back sacks by junior defensive tackle Bryce Carter in the first half, one of them resulting in a safety. Carter finished with five tackles and defensive back Crishaun Saunders turned in an excellent performance with seven tackles and an interception. Both Carter and Saunders are expected to star on the Thomas Dale defense as they both possess multiple Division I offers.
Next up for Thomas Dale will be the latest chapter in a storied rivalry as they’ll travel to Dutchman Field to take on L.C. Bird in the Battle of Chester.
The Skyhawks will look to continue their winning ways over the past 10 years in the rivalry. Bird has taken 10 of the last 11 games in the series. The Knights last defeated the Skyhawks 36-6 in 2017.
The game kicks off at L.C. Bird Friday at 7 p.m.
Henrico 42, Meadowbrook 0
The Monarchs, who were 0-10 last year and are in the midst of a complete rebuild under coach Chamont Thompson.
The Henrico Warriors finished 10-2 last season, dispatching L.C. Bird in the playoffs before falling to the eventual state champions, Highland Springs.
Next up for Meadowbrook is a contest at Varina on Friday. The Blue Devils lost their first game of the season as well, falling to Manchester by a count of 45-38 in overtime. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
