Thomas Dale High School’s starting quarterback and defensive back, Jasiah Williams, made his college choice in front of teammates and family last week. He will be attending the University of Richmond.
“Jasiah is one of the hardest working kids we’ve ever had play for us,” Thomas Dale coach Kevin Tucker said. “He’s coachable and is himself a coach on the field, leading his team on both sides of the ball.”
Despite missing time due to injury, last year Williams passed for 149 yards and a touchdown, ran for 185 yards and two touchdowns and caught five passes for 64 yards. Defensively, he made 35 tackles and defended six passes in the five games he played.
Williams originally caught the eyes of recruiters while playing for Dinwiddie as a freshman and sophomore, impressing with his speed and athleticism while returning kicks and playing wide receiver and defensive back.
At the college level, he will play one of those positions, but not quarterback.
This year, Williams has started all three games at quarterback for Thomas Dale and has led them to a 2-1 record, defeating Cosby and L.C. Bird and falling to Hermitage by a narrow margin, 21-19.
Williams joins a slew of athletes from Thomas Dale to commit to or play for Division I schools.
When considering just defensive backs, the list is impressive: C.J. Reavis (Virginia Tech/Marshall/Jacksonville Jaguars), Desmond Frye (Virginia Tech), Trent Williams (University of Richmond), Chris Tyree (Notre Dame) and more.
