On February 22, the LibraryBots, a FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team sponsored by the Chesterfield County Public Library, were one of only four Virginia teams who advanced to the worldwide FIRST Championship. To earn the right, the team competed against more than 50 other robotics teams from Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. at the FTC Virginia State Championship at Atlee High School in Mechanicsville.

The tournament judges awarded the prestigious Connect Award to the LibraryBots for their exceptional efforts to connect the Chesterfield community with STEM opportunities, and for the ways they have explored the opportunities available locally in the world of science, engineering, and technology.

The 12-member team is made up of public, private, and home-schooled Chesterfield County students in 7th to 12th grades. The LibraryBots meet weekly at the MakerSpace at Central Library, and they use sponsorships from local businesses to keep membership free of charge.

The LibraryBots are actively seeking sponsors to raise the $16,000 needed to travel to the world championship in Detroit April 29th-May 3rd. To find out how you can help, email [email protected].
