Trinidad reels in 11th scholarship offer
One of the hottest names in the area for recruiting, Kris Trinidad’s of L.C. Bird has attracted 11 scholarship offers, as Gardner-Webb being the latest.
With Matoaca’s Troy Lewis and Jacob Coleman committing to East Carolina, Trinidad and Thomas Dale’s Malachi Madison are perhaps the most sought-after recruits on the table at this point.
Trinidad, praised by coach Troy Taylor for his work ethic, offers a huge, expandable frame at 6-6, 210 pounds and has an excellent “old school” mentality. In fact, the rising senior is so “old school” that he didn’t even have a social media account until he began getting recruited this past spring.
As for the other ten schools on his list thus far, they include William & Mary, Bryant, Rhode Island, Central Michigan, Air Force, Bucknell, Navy, Campbell, Old Dominion, and Army.
The offers will continue to roll in for Trinidad. What might be more impressive is that due to COVID-19 lock down, the usual camps and combines have not happened. Also, there will be no football, in the fall at least, per a recent VHSL announcement.
Dale standout Mitchell snags first offer
Thomas Dale offensive lineman, Gregory Mitchell picked up his first offer from Albright College this past week.
“He’s the Swiss Army Knife of our offensive line,” explained Thomas Dale coach Kevin Tucker. “He was able to start at three different positions for us last year because of injuries.”
Mitchell spent time at center – having to learn every call – then at guard, because of his excellent pulling ability. Then, he slid out and played tackle against some of the best pass-rushers Thomas Dale faced in 2019 when the Knights played Oscar Smith. At 6-1 and 260 pounds, the rising senior has an ever-changing frame.
“He’s a quick-witted young man, a class leader, and a role model,” Tucker added.
Albright College is a Division III institution in Reading, Pa. They play in the Middle Atlantic Conference and finished 2-8 in 2019. A player like Mitchell could surely help the team turn it’s record around.
LCB’s Cromwell commits to Bluefield
Small in stature at 5-6 and 170 pounds, Andre Cromwell of L.C. Bird will head to the next level and play college football. He announced on Twitter he’s committed to Bluefield College.
“First off I want to thank God and all the blessings. He has blessed me with, and for guiding me for the right path. I also want to thank my family for supporting me through this whole journey, and I also want to thank my teammates and coaches for keeping me motivated and never allowing me to give up on my dream. I also want to thank Bluefield for giving me a chance. With all that being said, I would like to announce that I will be 100 percent committing to Bluefield football.” Cromwell said.
Cromwell handled some of the punting duties for L.C. Bird and played on special teams. Listed as a defensive end and fullback on the team’s roster, Cromwell potentially gives Bluefield a versatile piece for the Rams lineup. The 2020 graduate chose Bluefield over Bethany College, who offered him a slot on their roster back in April.
