Another L.C. Bird football player made headlines, but his shot at stardom at the college level will have to wait. Virginia Tech announced that the wide receiver would have leg surgery.
After impressing Hokies head coach Justin Fuente in practices leading up the season, Payoute seemed prime to get playing time early in his college career. In high school, Payoute was one of the most athletic players L.C. Bird had to offer. It was his speed on the track that brought an explosion in his recruiting before he chose Virginia Tech.
TechSideline.com reporter Cory Van Dyke wrote of the news that was given at a press conference Sept. 9, saying in his article:
“Fuente confirmed the loss of redshirt freshman Jaden Payoute to a leg/ankle injury. Rumors had been circulating for a few days, and Payoute seemed to substantiate those rumblings yesterday [Sept. 9] when he posted pictures on Instagram [of him]in a hospital bed.”
Payoute represents another of what has been a growing number of Division I recruits coming from L.C. Bird under head coach Troy Taylor.
