Jalen Elliott cut, but added to Lions practice squad

L.C. Bird and Notre Dame alum Jalen Elliott was cut two weeks ago by the Detroit Lions, but was immediately added to their 17-man practice squad.

The act of Elliott being cut was a signal that the undrafted free agent didn’t make the Lions’ roster out of the preseason, but he’s close to making his NFL debut. Other area athletes such as Ant Harris (L.C. Bird/UVA) and Brandian Ross (Meadowbrook/Youngstown State) were both practice squad players before making NFL active rosters.

Elliott was a part of a 5A state championship team at L.C. Bird, and he eventually worked his way up through the ranks at Notre Dame, where he served as a team captain during his senior season.

Ultra intelligent and athletic, Elliott figures to soon get an opportunity to show what he can do for the Detroit Lions. The Lions narrowly lost their first game of the NFL season 27-23 to the Chicago Bears.
