Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. As I mentioned in my past article, I was going to get carpet for my whole house: the master bedroom, living room, and both small bedrooms. The carpet store told me they would move the heavy furniture but all of the stuff in the cabinets, breakables, etc., I would have to move by myself. The only areas not impacted were the kitchen, dining room and the bathrooms, which became the storage area for dozens of boxes and baskets, with the overflow going into the garage. What a mess. then, to make matters worse, I was a week early in my preparations, so I had to deal with this inside moving longer than necessary. They finally showed up, and it took two days to finish the job, but not without issues. The first day they finished the master bedroom and one of the small bedrooms. I noticed that the bedroom furniture was put back in the room, but the dresser, large cabinet, and a cedar chest were no longer where I had left them that morning. I do not know if they thought they were interior decorators or not, but I was not happy, and I left a message with the store that it better be put back the way I had it. My message must have gotten through, because early the next morning, one of the installers called and asked me where everything was supposed to be. One win for me! The second day they finished the living room and the last bedroom, which is what I use for my study and where most of my electronics are found. I was really concerned about tearing everything apart and then trying to put it all back together. I have a laptop, a monitor, a printer, a television, two sets of speakers (one for the laptop and one for the television) and a Joey Hopper from Dish, plus two lamps. I think that adds up to roughly 12 plugs and two extension cords. So, that night I started to put everything back together. I am not a tech nerd for sure. Once I get things up and running, I do not want to touch them. I am even afraid to try a new button on my remote in case it might shut me down. So, I get the television and the Hopper hooked up. Power, but no picture. I did a couple of resets and finally got it to fire up. Yay me. One down and one to go. The laptop, monitor, and speakers all went together like a piece of cake and everything was working except for the internet. No matter what I did or reset, nothing was happening, and it looked as if my transmitter were not even getting a signal. I called the help line, and waited and waited, until I took them up on their automated offer to push 1-pound and they would call me back. I pushed the number, and finally gave up and went to bed around midnight. Next day, I took some time off and went back home in the hopes a minor miracle occurred. No such luck, but I did have some luck with my second call to the service center. Only took a few minutes to get a real human, and he confirmed that there were no outages in my area, and I was not getting a signal. The service guy came out the next morning and he had to replace the cable; he said he found a cut in the wire. I suspect the installers nicked the cable when they were bringing it up through the carpet. However, the good news is that I am back as good as ever, and there will be no more touching or moving of anything!
Take care and have a great day.
