Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. Some good news to report: the BigTen has decided to have a football season after all. Ohio State will play a home game against Nebraska on the 24th of October. Start time, viewing, and other details are still up in the air, but it is something to look forward to. I have not watched much sports this year due to the over-politicization of the game to the point it being a distraction. I am not a baseball fan, I have not watched any NBA games, and – to be truthful – I did not even know that the NFL had started to hold Sunday games again. I was at the gym that first Sunday, and they happened to have one of the games on the television over by the treadmills. It was like “Oh, football has started!” Along with all the extra events going on at the games, there was one game where on the initial kick-off all the players on the field took a knee. Now I would have thought it would have been funny if one of the players broke ranks, or even if a fan ran onto the field, scooped up that ball, and ran it back for a touchdown. That would have been hilarious. LOL. What I found even funnier was the fact that the football league fined several coaches for not properly wearing their masks during the game, like $100,000…not a small chunk of change. So strange. You have 22 players on the field banging and sweating on each other, plus like another 40 or so on each sideline, while everyone else..referees, flag men, water boys, all have to mask up, even though everyone was tested before the game, and most have little or no contact with the actual players. Speaking of masks, they are making a big deal about not being able to vote in person because of this virus. I think, unless you have an underlying condition, or physically cannot go to a polling place, we should go just ase we normally do. I mean, if we can go to Walmart, go out to dinner, or go to a game, then why can we not go vote? Wear the mask, and give each polling place a big bottle of alcohol to spray everyone and everything, and we should be good to go. I want to make sure my vote gets where it needs to go, and it was verified that it was I who voted, and not some stranger that got my mass-mailed voter ballot. Also, I am not thrilled that I have to rely on the Post Office for this large undertaking. I personally think they do a good job, considering the billions of letters and packages they handle, but what happens at Christmas time when it is crunch time? They tell everyone to mail early if they expect to get their presents there by Christmas. Also, let’s have a show of hands; how many of you have gotten someone else’s mail? I have. Several times a year and I have a private mailbox at the Post Office. How many have you had mail stolen? I had kids take the mail out of my mailbox when I lived in Tennessee, for fun, I guess. Also, I no longer send cash in envelopes. The card gets to the addressee less the green backs. How many had your mail never get to its intended address or you get mail that was sent six months ago…and so on. Again, I am not picking on the Post Office, but I do not want my vote being handled by a number of strangers that are not certified to make my sure my vote counts!
Got to run. As always, be good, do good, play safe, and make every effort to exercise your right to vote.
