Hopkins Road Elementary School Principal Lisa Hill was recently named Chesterfield County Public Schools’ recipient of the 2019 R.E.B. Award for Distinguished Educational Leadership.

The R.E.B. Awards for Distinguished Educational Leadership – named in honor of Rudy and Esther Bunzl – recognize central Virginia principals who go beyond day-to-day demands to create an exceptional educational environment for students and staff members.

“Dr. Hill is a true champion of her students, constantly advocating for what’s in the best interest of the children who come to Hopkins Elementary,” Dale District School Board member John Erbach said. “She brings new ideas into her school community to enrich the lives of these students, and we are all so proud that her efforts and those of her teachers and staff that have led to this R.E.B. award.”

Hill is in her eighth year as principal at Hopkins Elementary. Prior to that, she was an assistant principal at the school for five years. She has been with Chesterfield County Public Schools since 1993.

One nominator said Hill “has the amazing ability to adapt to everyone she comes into contact within our school and community” and “leads by example to her staff by having compassion towards every person, determination and confidence to reach goals, and displays all of this in a positive manner.”

Principals who were nominated for recognition from the Village News’ coverage area include: Monique Booth, Salem Church Elementary; Nina Brink, O.B. Gates Elementary; Lashante Knight, Salem Church Middle; and Aurelia Ortiz, Falling Creek Middle.

The Community Foundation of Richmond and the R.E.B. Foundation oversee the R.E.B. Awards for Distinguished Educational Leadership. One principal from each local school system, Chesterfield, Henrico and Hanover counties and the city of Richmond, is honored annually.

Each winner receives $7,500 for their own use and $7,500 to use for a school project. Nominations come from members of the school community and the general public.
