Hello and welcome back to the Super Dogpound. The Super Bowl is over, and I have to admit it was one of the better ones. The game went deep into the fourth quarter with either team poised to win the game. Even the referees seemed to hold back a bit allowing the players to actually play the game. My only real beef was the lack of scoring. Based on the talent on both teams I had expected a high scoring game. The halftime was above average. Each year it amazes me how they put all of this together. Must take them all year. Even the commercials were decent this year, and they had better be, since the price tag for 30 seconds was on the high side of $5,000,000,and Fox paid the NFL a billion dollars (yes, with a “B”) for the privilege to air the game. This was the year of what I call the “throwback” commercials; what I mean by that, is that many of them had actors and hints of past commercials. For example, in one commercial Sylvester Stallone showed up as Rocky Balboa and others had the wrestlers like Ric Flair and John Cena. There were so many in the Walmart pick-up commercial, you could not keep count. There was Star Trek, Star Wars, Mars Attacks, Legos; all coming in for their groceries and supplies. Not to be out done, Procter & Gamble had a long stream of their products, Mr. Clean, Bounty, Olay, Old Spice and many more trying to clean up the spills of all spills: a big pot of chili that was splattered around the room by the ceiling fan. I don’t have time to try and explain that to you; if you have an interest, you will have to look it up. Of course, the true definition of a Super Bowl ad i: do you remember not only the commercial but what product was being promoted?. For example, there was an ad featuring Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman in the movies; he goes through the commercial stripping off body parts so he will be more comfortable. Remember what the ad was for? I did not either. I had to look it up…it was for Rocket Mortgage. On the other side of the fence, the best advertisement by far was the very emotional clip by Google Assistant, called ‘Loretta.” It was a voice-over of an old man who had recently lost his wife of many years, and he was using the Assistant to help him relieve memories of her. He would ask the Assistant to show him their wedding pictures, play their favorite song, or remind him that her favorite color was purple. It was hard not to well up a tear or two watching that commercial. Well done Google.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
“Life brings tears, smiles and memories. The tears dry, and the smiles fade, but the memories last forever.”
SMILES
Congress is a so strange. A man gets up to speak and says nothing. Nobody listens. Then everybody disagrees with him. Will Rogers
I have come to the conclusion that one useless man is a disgrace, that two become a law firm, and that three or more become a congress. John Adams
Several surgeons were discussing who makes the best patients. One said “I prefer Accountants.. You open them up and everything is numbered.” The second said, “I like electricians; you open them up and everything is color coded.” The third surgeon said he liked politicians. “Hands down they are the easiest to operate on. You open them up, and there is no heart, guts, or spine, and the head and butt are interchangeable.”
That is all I have today. As always be good, do good, play safe and remember making memories is a good thing.
