After a flurry of offers and visits, Thomas Dale offensive lineman Greg Mitchell made his college decision. He’ll be suiting up for Shenandoah University next fall.
“The decision I am about to make is deeper than just football,” Mitchell said on his Twitter account, @espn__greg. “I am making this decision for the next forty years, not the next four, because one day football will come to an end. So, with that being said, I am announcing that I will be pursuing a business administration degree with a minor in esports and continuing my athletic career at Shenandoah University.”
Mitchell played three different positions on the offensive line for Thomas Dale last season, filling in everywhere that he was needed by coach Kevin Tucker when injuries struck.
That versatility, a developable frame (6-1, 266 pounds), and an excellent presence in the classroom led many schools to throw their hats into the ring.
Devin Bailey, receiver and sasfety, will be joining his brother Jalen Bailey at Virginia State. Devin’s recruitment came to a close on Nov. 22 with an announcement via his Twitter account, @therealdbailey.
“It has been a dream of mine to play at the next level with my brother and we knew with hard work it would be possible,” Devin Bailey said.
Jalen committed to VSU this summer after a prep year at Fork Union.
Two Matoaca athletes, Jordan Robinson and Akhari Haggard, tacked onto their offer totals. Robinson and Haggard both picked up offers from Division II Fairmont State in West Virginia, while Haggard picked up a second invitation as a preferred walk-on to a Division I school when Fordham came calling.
Haggard could catapult himself into Division I scholarship offers should he have a strong showing in the upcoming season, slated to start in February.
L.C. Bird’s Jordyn Bentley, who picked up an offer from West Virginia State two weeks ago, added a second when Concord University in West Virginia extended the laurel.
