A visiting artist is working with art students at Marguerite Christian Elementary to create a mural focusing on Virginia animals the wall outside art classes.
Marguerite Christian Elementary is thrilled to welcome visiting artist Charlotte Rodenberg. Rodenberg is an adjunct VCU professor and local artist who has written, illustrated and published two children’s books: Bronto and the Pterodactyl Eggs and Bronto, Friend of Ceratops.
Amy Tirrell is the art teacher at Marguerite Christian Elementary and has been the heart of the project. As the school’s 2014 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Tirrell is using the funds she earned to sponsor Rodenberg’s visit, as well as additional funds from the PTA of Marguerite Christian. On June 9 and 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, Charlotte Rodenberg and several VCU art students will help students third through fifth grades create a mural. Students in the kindergarten through second grade classes will be able to come and observe the process.
The concept of the mural will be Virginia animals and habitats. Rodenberg says, “I want to create a world with a fun, dreamy and stylized look-even a touch of folk.” She is currently working on sketches and updating her blog with details.
