The only way to access the Brown and Williamson Conservation Area in Enon, a site donated by the tobacco company to Chesterfield County, is by a Parks and Recreation tour.
Parks and Recs is offering a trek, Saturday, Jan. 26, according to Mark Battista, naturalist for the County. The tour will start at the vernal pool along the southern border, Drop down into a big hollow and follow the stream. Next, it will ascend to the bluff to view the James River and follow the bluff its entire length to the start. This hike will travel almost the entire boundary – approximately four miles.
In September 2001, the Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation donated 262 acres along a one-mile stretch of the James River adjacent to Dupont Fibers.
In 2003, Chesterfield County entered a long-term partnership with the Friends of Chesterfield’s Riverfront (FOCR) and the Virginia Outdoors Foundation to place a conservation easement on this parcel of land restricting its management and development to passive recreation and conservation.The tour will take place on Saturday, January 26; 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
