Chesterfield County principals presented some 4,300 high school diplomas at VCU’s Siegel Center during graduation week, June 9 through June 13.
The series of convocations is the last for Superintendent Marcus Newsome, who will be taking a new leadership role at Petersburg City Public Schools as superintendent on July 1. Dr. Newsome will hand the reins to Dr. James F. Lane, the newly hired Superintendent.
Dr. Newsome spoke at each ceremony in a bittersweet swan song of his time leading Chesterfield County Public Schools.
The 4,300 graduates (4,400 last year) are representative of the 58,000 students in a total of 62 schools in Chesterfield. Chesterfield County has 38 elementary schools (grades K-5), 13 middle schools (grades 6-8), 11 high schools (grades 9-12), and a technical center.
In the Village News readership area, 1,741 students accomplished their goal of completing high school.
Graduates and their families shared their best graduation photos via Facebook and Twitter, and with Chesterfield County Public Schools.
July 1 will also see the retirement of two principals: Manchester High School principal Pete Koste, who has worked 39 years in CCPS, and Cosby High School principal Brenda Mayo, who has worked 18 years in CCPS.
Graduations will be re-broadcast exactly two weeks after the live graduation on Comcast Channel 96 and on Verizon Fios Channel 26.
