The third annual “Get Your Butts to Broadway” Festival in downtown Hopewell is right around the corner. Featuring some of the best backyard pork butt cookers in the region, this festival puts BBQ cookers to the test, unleashing the best butts known to man. With beer, live music, and plenty of food, this signature event is one you don’t want to miss.
This year there will be nine competitors all competing for the title of “Best Butt on Broadway.” For $10, patrons will be able to taste a sample of each of the competitors BBQ and vote for the winner of the People’s Choice Award. Celebrity judge Jeff Katz of WRVA and four others will be on hand to choose the Judges’ Choice Award and give one competitor bragging rights for the year.
Last year’s winner, Taste of Grace BBQ, will battle it out with the inaugural event’s winner, Parr’s BBQ, to see if they can hold on to their title of “Best Butt on Broadway.” Last year’s People’s Choice winner, Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR), is also returning to the competition in hopes of reclaiming their place as the crowd’s favorite.
The event takes place June 25 on on East Broadway Avenue between Route 10 and Hopewell Street near The Beacon Theater in downtown Hopewell. It starts at 5 p.m. and continues until the music stops around 8:30. Individuals can find more info and pre-purchase tickets online (www.hopewelldowntown.com/butts) or can purchase them at the event.
