Defense wins games, which was the case Friday night for Dinwiddie. On a beautiful Friday night, the Thomas Dale Knights traveled to face the undefeated Dinwiddie Generals. With two big teams playing, only one team could come out on top and the Generals did with a win of 28-0.
The Generals played hard each quarter on both sides of the ball, showing no stopping. With no scoring in the first quarter, the Generals came out strong in the second quarter and stopped the Knights quickly. On the next possession, junior quarterback K’ymon Pope drove down the field and finished with an 8-yard touchdown. Soon after, the Dinwiddie defense forced another Knights punt, setting up a 40-yard passing touchdown from K’ymon Pope to Clatrey Reese to build a 14-0 lead for halftime.
Originally, Ohio State commit K’Vaughan Pope was a game-time decision, but he would finish the game with a team-high 14 tackles, including a sack. Thomas Dale was averaging 36 points but with the General’s defense, they only had 20 rushing yards in the first half.
In a huge win, Generals quarterback K’ymon Pope finished the game 6-for-15 with 178 total yards and 3 total touchdowns. The Generals’ rushing attack finished with 254 yards, Zyan Sturdivant rushing for 102 yards and finishing the game with 121 yards in total. Joseph Tyree also helped, gaining 36 yards and a score.
In this, Thomas Dale was quarterbacked by John Pierce, who finished the game with 37 yards. The Knights’ rush attack was a positive; they finished with 125 yards, senior Elijah Burns leading the way with 44. Behind him were sophomore Chris Tyree, who finished with 41 yards, and senior Colin Holmes with 36.
With another big win secured, Dinwiddie moves to 5-0, and they will go on the road to face a 1-4 Matoaca team. With a loss, Thomas Dale drops to 3-2, and they host a hot Meadowbrook team, that has won its last two games.
