Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. I have been kind of handy with tools and stuff for a long time. I helped build my first house…electrical…plumping…drywall, etc. I was young…never done anything like that before. I would just get some repair books and go at it. I always made it work, one way or another, but I have to be honest with you…if I knew then what I know now about how hard and difficult it is to build a house…I would never have tried it while at the same time starting a family and a…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. I found something at the local Wal-Mart the other day that brought back many old memories. Let’s see if you can guess what I am talking about. It came in a cardboard box with a handle; was yellow and red, had animals pictured on its side and was made by Nabisco. I am sure the older readers have guessed this by now.It was the old Barnum’s Animals crackers. They were cut in the shape of various wild animals packaged in a circus wagon carton, and it was always fun…
Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. If I have my calculations right this article should be ready for the Labor Day issue and again maybe not. Of late I have not had a lot of success in making those special dates…sometimes early… sometimes late; as Max would say… looking down from above… “You dumb-dumb…you missed it again!” Of course in his loving but mocking way. It is really hard to believe that Labor Day is already here…it seems just like yesterday when I took Max into the vet for the last time right after the…
Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. Now that things have settled down a bit I have had the opportunity to catch up on some reading and I found the following kind of interesting. I did not know that car insurance companies have their own FICO score… like the one they now show on your credit card statement; however, each insurance company can create their own proprietary score based off your credit. These scores help them determine the price you are going to be paying for car insurance and surprisingly they do not have to share…
Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound where we are continuing our journey down memory lane of our time with Max. Before we get started, I wanted to take time to thank Elizabeth French for the nice card and kind words that were much appreciated. Now, as I have said, Max was a lover not a fighter, but there were a few times when he was not so loving. Max, like most dogs, wanted to protect his territory, and for the most part Max was satisfied with just barking and sometime growling as an offending dog…
Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. Before we continue down the memory lane with Max, I need to bring you up to date on some things happening around the Dogpound. One of the more recent and important events to date has to do with the place where I work. Yes, I still do work for a living…if I tried to live off of writing…I would starve in short order. Anyway…on Monday the 27th of July, a Monday…we received an email from Management telling us that 2015 year-to-date has not been a great year for us…at…
Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. As you know, I have been writing about the memories of Max, but I need to pause a minute and thank Ernest Mackey for the nice letter I received in the mail. Ernest also related that they had lost their pet of 14 years “Sheltie” [Prancer]. [Sorry for your loss] Included in the letter was a little poem about losing a pet, called “The Rainbow Bridge.” I have to admit after writing three articles since Max’s passing I thought I was over the tears, but that poem brought a…
Hello and welcome back to the Dogpound where we are taking a sentimental journey down memory lane. They say the best way to ease the loss of a friend and/or loved one is to recount the good times you had together, and, by doing so, they will never seem to be very far way. One of the other cute things Max did when he was young, besides climbing out of the play pen, he would grab one of my socks out of the bedroom and sleep with it. He always liked to be in the same room with me, and…
Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound where we continue the storyline that we started last week. As a reminder, in case you missed the last issue, I had to put my best buddy, Max, to sleep after 14 plus years. It was the best thing for him. Just after Christmas, Max was fully weaned and I was able to bring him back to his new home. Max immediately demonstrated that he was a very smart dog. Since I was working during the day, I decided to get a baby play pen (I know, a little…
Welcome to the Dogpound where we have a sad announcement to make. With a heavy heart I had to make the tough decision to put Max asleep. He was no longer mobile without my assistance, he barely ate which caused him to continue to lose weight, and his bed sores were now on both sides of his hips and could not be closed. So after 14 and a half years, it was time to say goodbye to my long-time buddy. They say the best way to ease the pain when losing someone close to you is to focus on the…
