The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors recognized its World War II veterans with a resolution calling for remembrance on Aug. 14, the 70th anniversary of the end of the war. Around 28 WWII veterans attended a dinner in their honor on July 22 during the dinner break of the Board of Supervisors meeting. During the dinner, the veterans swapped stories from their service in the war, while county employees and leaders served them dinner. As it continues to work on filling the gap of the “Moving Forward… the Comprehensive Plan for Chesterfield,” which includes smaller area plans, the Chesterfield County Planning Department planners are drafting the bicycles and trails facility plan, a Phase II implementation. The draft Bikeways & Trails plan is only an advisory plan and according to planners, is only a guide for future development of the facilities. In a runaway victory last Tuesday in the 11th Senatorial District, Amanda Chase took down incumbent Steve Martin and Barry Moore. Both Ms. Chase and Mr. Moore were running for office for the first time. Chase overwhelmed Martin who held the Virginia Senate seat since he won the Senate position in a special election in 1994. Chase convinced voters that it was time for Martin to go. She beat Martin by over 1,000 votes in what was considered a low turnout election. DALE DISTRICT Near the entrance to Falling Creek Middle School (FCMS), Michael Jackson declared his candidacy for the Chesterfield County School Board to represent the Dale District. The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors approved a series of agreements last month for the Chesterfield Center for the Arts (CCAF), which will allow both the final phase of the design and construction of the approximately 18,500-square-foot facility to begin. The project is being developed in conjunction with the aid of public supporters that are providing funds for both construction and operating costs. The center is one of the largest public/private partnerships in terms of private donations undertaken in the county. About $1.1 million in private donations and pledges have been raised by the CCAF.
