Another wonderful afternoon at the Chester Kiwanis Christmas Parade! The annual parade drew many spectators. Dorothy Jaeckle served as the Grand Marshal leading 73 groups that included floats, cars, dancers, horses, bands and more. Joe Schetting was the master of ceremony at the parade that represented local businesses, churches and organizations in the community. A special thank you to the Chester YMCA, JT Morriss, Chick-fil-A, and the Chester Library for allowing us use of their parking lots for staging/disbanding the parade participants. The Chester and Richmond Civitan Clubs recently joined forces to assist the Greater Richmond ARC and Camp Baker in Chesterfield in upgrading their respective kitchen facilities. With a matching donation from the Chesapeake Civitan Foundation the two clubs donated $21,000 for the recent upgrades. The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia, (CHSV), in partnership with the Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation, presents an American Heritage merit badge workshop for Boy Scouts in December. The Boy Scout American Heritage Merit Badge Workshop will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at Historic Trinity Church, 10111 Iron Bridge Rd., Chesterfield 23832. Curtis Elementary School as part of his Eagle Scout “journey.” The project includes two sensory boards, a tree cookie walking path, and three play tables that can be filled with sand, water, or soil. The sensory boards include items that appeal to the senses and build fine and gross motor skills. The Eagle Scout project is the capstone of a scouting journey. Dr. Joseph P. Casey, County Administrator, spoke at the regular meeting of the Woman’s Club of Chester on Nov. 7. He was introduced by Sarah Snead, Deputy County Supervisor for Human Services and Dorothy Jaeckle, our Bermuda District Supervisor. Since November is Cultural Arts Awareness Month, Dr. Casey focused on the importance of the new Baxter Perkins Center for the Arts which will break ground very soon. This project has been the pet project for Betty Matthews for many years.
Chester Garden Club members created spectacular floral arrangements interpreting selected art pieces during the 13th bi-annual Fine Arts & Flowers at the Virginia Museum of Art. They joined volunteers from over 50 garden clubs in Virginia. Nearly 90 interpretive arrangements were on display during the four-day event., All of the flowers for the arrangements — upward of 8,000 stems — have been donated by Strange’s Florist.
Chester Lions Club wishes to thank all of the community who donated to their White Cane fund raiser recently. Although it was the first time that they did not reach their goal, that was not because of lack of support from the community. The Lions do get their locations authorized by the retail sites well in advance of their Spring and Fall fundraiser weekends. The Chester Lions get the majority of their funds for the year from those two weekends. All of the money collected at the two White Cane weekends stays in the community and is used for the…
CHESTERFIELD —On behalf of the Rotary Club of Chester, Dr. Sam Galstan presented Brian Galusha, assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of American Troop 819, with a $ 1,000 check August 9. Troop 819 was founded in 1932, and is one of the oldest BSA Troops in the area. The troop is more than 84 years old, and has been generously sponsored by St. John’s Episcopal Church in Chester for the troop’s entire history. Through the years, several hundred young men have come through the troop and learned valuable life, community, and leadership skills. Both of Galstan’s sons, Bailey and Berkeley, are Eagle…
