The 1.2 million-square foot, 3,300-employees, Amazon Fulfillment Center at Meadowville Technology Park may soon be no longer the big boy on the block at the business park. Amazon could get a little brother if a new business dubbed “Project Buzzard” decides to build on part of a 223-acre site that runs behind the Amazon. The parcel can be accessed by Bermuda Hundred Road or by Meadowville Technology Parkway. “Project Buzzard” would be the sixth commercial enterprise to be located in the technology park. Bermuda Square Shopping Center was moving right along with renovations. But now the construction has slowed. After completing about 50 percent of the project, the remaining retail space is either incomplete or on hold. The pad foundation, meant for the Martin’s grocery, is apparently delayed although DDR, the shopping center developer, would not comment on the status of the construction. At issue are two Belgian companies Ahold and Delhaize, two large Europeon grocery chains, which received permission, from the Belgian Competion Authority (BCA), for a huge mergerer. Defense Supply Center Richmond, located in Chesterfield, last week held a groundbreaking ceremony on the campus of the DLA facility which distributes aviation parts. The division will replace Buildings 31 and 32 and include a new center restaurant, according to Chief of Engineering Services Branch Dave Kolmer. The new $87 million, 252,000 square-foot, five-story congressionally-approved building will be the first phase of a three phase development. Kolmer did say that only Phase 1 of the project has been approved. Phases 2 and 3 still have to undergo congressional approval. In Chesterfield home sales were down in August from June, the strongest month this year. June boasted 631 units sold while August was down at 461 yet still the strongest month other than June. August home sales in Virginia were 5.26 percent higher year-over-year, while median sales price remained fairly stable. Both number of sales and sales prices decreased from July to August. Sales and prices decrease seasonally beginning in July and continue to decrease through the beginning of the following year.
