The Chesterfield County Fairgrounds will be the site of a Fourth of July event this year from 5-9 p.m., and Fort Lee will host a musical event starting at 5:15 p.m. with fireworks to begin at 9:35 p.m. The fairgrounds, located at 10300 Courthouse Road across from L.C. Bird High School, will have a spectacular fireworks display at dusk. The event includes an activity area for children, food vendors and special entertainment. Poppies, pins, and red, white, and blue paraphernalia were on display Thursday as a veterans recognition ceremony was held at Dunlop House. This is the first time the ceremony was held at the senior living community. Amanda Griffith, the community relations coordinator at Dunlop House, said the event was a collaboration with VFW Post 2239 to honor local military personnel and veterans residing at the facility. “I got together with Joann Duncan from the VFW and I said, ‘How can we partner to recognize veterans both in her VFW and the outside community and also within Dunlop House,’” Griffith said,…
A few hundred braved the cold air during Saturday afternoon’s Veterans Day event, “Saluting Chesterfield County Veterans of all U.S. Wars,” sponsored by the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia held on the lawn of the Historic 1917 Courthouse. A march of veterans, with the walkway lined by soldiers the 266th Quartermaster Battalion from Fort Lee in salute, was led by Master Sgt. John J. Nichols, WWII Buffalo Soldier and member of the 9th and 10th Horse Cavalry Association.
