This year’s parade theme is “Christmas Movies.” The parade will take place Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. It will begin at the Chester YMCA and end at Harrowgate Road. Three talented floral designers from the Chester Garden Club will join 83 others floral designers from approximately 50 Garden Clubs and their governing body, Garden Clubs of Virginia, where they will contribute nearly 90 floral interpretations of fine art when Fine Arts & Flowers returns to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts October 20–23. This is the 13th presentation of this biennial exhibition. The unique floral interpretations of works will offer breathtaking displays inspired by masterworks throughout the museum. CHESTER – An 18-wheeler parked in front of Trinity United Methodist Church had a fire-brigade line of folks unloading pumpkins from New Mexico last Thursday in preparation for the 17th year of the Trinity Pumpkin Patch. Sales of the pumpkins have begun and will be through Oct. 31. Trinity United Methodist Church has partnered with Pumpkin Patch Fundraisers every year to supply a variety of pumpkins and gourds. Pumpkin Patch is located on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico and provides employment opportunities for Native Americans. The staff and management is 100 percent Navajo. By Danielle Ozbat People of different ages and sizes braved the heat Saturday morning and ventured out to Fall Field Day at Presquile National Wildlife Refuge. Visitors were able to tour the 1,329-acre island refuge, its native plants and animals, and the energy-efficient facilities of The James River Ecology School. The wildlife refuge offered a myriad of activities including an Audubon guided tour, wetland canoe trips, a butterfly exploration hike, and a self-guided nature trail. The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia, in cooperation with the Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation, presents an open house for Pleasant View School during Eppington Heritage Day. Pleasant View School is an early 20th century African-American schoolhouse. In 1924, the Chesterfield County School Board purchased two acres of land to construct a new school for blacks. Pleasant View School was built with the financial support of the African-American community. It opened in 1930 and closed in 1947. Now owned by the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation, the school features desks, blackboards, church pews, piano and other items…

Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Chester, the event was held at St. John’s Episcopal Church and had veterans from the Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines. Four World War II veterans were also honored. This is the second veterans event of its nature as 41 World War II veterans were honored at Chester Presbyterian Church and presented with medals last June. CHESTER – Henricus Historical Park invites seniors and coordinators of adult groups and clubs to participate in a guided site tour to preview activities of newly developed Adult Education Group Programs Thursday, Sept. 29. Two of the programs begin officially by January 2017. The Two Lives of Pocahontas program starts in September 2017. Group guided tours are available at any time with pre-registration.
