The Chesterfield County Public Library will host the Chesterfield Maker Expo 2016 – a family-friendly event that will include a variety of makers. The vendors will create or demonstrate everything from robots to printmaking, coding to crafts. Maker Expo is on Saturday, June 4, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Central Library, 9501 Lori Rd. BENSLEY, Va. – The beat of a Native American drum calling to dancers filled the air, and buckskinned clothed dancers along with a youth in silk regalia and shawl mesmerized the onlooking crowd with their dances Colonial style music and singers transported one in thought to another era in time as historical interpreters provided education and entertainment, it was Sunday and the Falling Creek Ironworks annual event had begun. A free concert featuring BreakPoint, host band for the 2016 South Chesterfield Relay for Life, will take place Wednesday, June 8 at 7 p.m. at the Chester Presbyterian Church located at the corner of West Hundred and Osborne roads. Local talent will also be featured, as will special guest vocalists Melissa Hetzler Burton of Zachariah Song and Kelly Lee Wachner of Mama – Jauna playing tunes from Coldplay, Zac Brown, Train, Bill Withers, and many more. In the early days before career firefighters were employed by local governments, volunteer fire departments formed and became the hub of a community. Not only did volunteers respond to a fire, they organized fund raisers and community events. The auxiliary units organized the events as well as provided food and drinks for firefighters responding to calls. They brought their neighbors together with a mission and a passion to protect their community.
