In 2013 a Referendum was approved by voters to either replace or renovate 11 schools and the school administration building. While initially the projects were spread over a nine-year period, the projects now extend only seven years. “Our school projects are remaining the same, the schools in the original CIP (Capital Improvement Program) that were in years 8 and 9 have been moved up to be completed in the 7 year time frame. It was a day of respect and honor on Saturday, as nearly 1,000 wreaths were placed on gravestones at City Point National Cemetery in Hopewell. Residents from Enon and other Chesterfield neighborhoods were involved in the project. Of the 971 wreaths laid, 436 were contributed by the efforts of the Oldies but Goodies Classic Cruizers Car Club, said Bob Jones, President of the Car Club. “As a veteran myself, this project makes me feel great,” Bruce Vecchioni, Vice President of Oldies but Goodies Classic Cruizers said. The Chesterfield County School Board has hired BWP & Associates to conduct a national search for the next superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools. BWP & Associates representatives Dr. Kevin Castner and Dr. Wayne Harris attended a recent School Board meeting to discuss the search and selection process. BWP will seek a successor to Dr. Marcus Newsome, who announced in the fall that he would retire at the end of the 2015-16 school year. Matoaca resident Katelyn McCarter has overcome several of life’s obstacles in the music industry on her way to becoming a Christian Recording Pop artist. A two-time International Music and Entertainment Association Christian Female Vocalist, Christian Entertainer of the Year award-winner and Rebirth Radio’s 2013 Song of the Year and Rising Artist of the Year award winner, McCarter dropped her connection with a national record label in 2013 and is now an Indi Artist. The Kiwanis Club of Chester kicks off the Christmas Season with their annual parade through Chester by way of West Hundred Road on Sunday, Dec. 13. Three marching bands, floats, walking groups and of course Santa. Units will be judged in a number of categories. This parade promises to be one of the best.

The sun was shining brightly and the light breeze had a little cool nip in it, but the spirits were bright and cheerful on Friday as the crowds poured in to celebrate the re-opening of the 5925 Hopkins Rd., McDonald’s. On January 5, fire ravaged the previous building. Around 1 a.m., fire crews were summoned for a kitchen fire that had spread. The damaged building later was razed.
