The Chesterfield County Public Schools Board has new leadership. Since all five of the board members are new, it was just a matter of who would be voted in by fellow board members. At the board’s Jan. 14 meeting, Matoaca board member Ryan Harter nominated for chairman longtime Chesterfield teacher Debbie Bailey, who represents the Dale District. Her nomination was unanimously approved. For vice chair, Midlothian member Kathryn Haines nominated Clover Hill member Dot Heffron, who was also voted in unanimously. Awards will be given to winners from seven categories of volunteers: Youth (ages 12 and under), Teen (ages 13 and older), Youth Group (two or more volunteers under age 18), Adult (ages 18 to 59), Senior (ages 60 and over), Group (two or more volunteers, with no age restriction),and Organization (a business, church, or the like). Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Master Food Volunteer training program is a great opportunity for those who love cooking and learning about nutrition and wellness, to be trained to empower others to make healthy lifestyle changes. New Planning Commission members approved At its Jan. 8 meeting, the Chesterfield Board of Supervisors named Midlothian supervisor Leslie Haley chairwoman for the year by a 4-1 vote with Jim Holland disssenting. Haley was chair last year. Prior to the vote, Holland said he believed that the chair and vice chairman positions should be rotated among the supervisors, who serve four-year terms. Matoaca supervisor Kevin Carroll was named vice chair in a unanimous vote.
