Milhorn Street is located west of Jefferson Davis Highway, just south of Woods Edge Road. The call came in at 5:33 p.m. “The crews arrived on scene to heavy fire showing from the back of the home,” Chesterfield Fire and EMS Lt. Employees at the Fiorucci Foods plant in the 1800 block of Ruffin Mill Road had quite a scare when an explosion occurred July 26, sending flames into the air and shaking the building. It began at 5:41 a.m. when a compressor in a boiler room ruptured and caused an explosion, Chesterfield Fire & EMS spokesman Jason Elmore said. “The blast doors above the boiler room were blown open,” he said. At its annual meeting earlier this month, the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association elected Chesterfield County Fire & EMS Chief Edward “Loy” Senter Jr. to its 2019-2020 board. Senter was elected by his association peers to serve as an alternate board member. He has been an active member in the association for more than 14 years. A dump truck spilled wood chips. (Billy Spivey) A dump truck crashed in the 11400 block of Nash Road on Tuesday, May 28. The truck overturned after the driver lost control around 1:30 p.m. Officials said the driver was able to get out of the vehicle on his own while rescuers were on the way. Some diesel fuel spilled, along with a load of wood chips. There were no injuries, and the driver was not charged. The road was closed for several hours for clean up.

Firefighters, medics and two hazardous materials teams responded to a chemical spill at the DuPont Spruance Plant at 5401 Jefferson Davis Highway on Saturday, June 1. “The incident began at 6:11 p.m. when 400 gallons of a flammable liquid spilled,” Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesman Jason Elmore said. “Workers around the area were evacuated.” The spill was contained and vapors suppressed, he said. Three adults were displaced when fire damaged their home in the 5300 block of Ridgerun Terrace on Thursday, May 2. Fire and medical personnel were dispatched to the residence at 12:51 a.m., Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesman Jason Elmore said. Fire could be seen coming from the rear of the structure, he said. A man was displaced from his home after a fire broke out in his residence in the 4300 block of Shillcutt Road Tuesday, April 23. Smoke was spotted coming from the roof vents when fire crews arrived at 5:02 p.m., fire department spokesman Jason Elmore said. The fire began in the kitchen and spread to the attic, Elmore said, noting that two cats died in the blaze. “No one was home at the time of the fire,” Elmore said, noting the home sustained moderate damage. Firefighters were dispatched to 11800 Lewis Road on Monday, April 1, for a building on fire. Firefighters discovered smoke and fire coming from a recycling plant. One resident was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, and a firefighter was transported with minor injuries after a fire at 15315 Happy Hill Road on Saturday, March 30. Fire and medical personnel were dispatched at 5:20 p.m. for a report of a house fire, chief deputy fire marshal Salvatore Luciano said.
