Ruth Hope Jordan, 84, of Chester, Va., passed away peacefully in her home on Oct. 12, 2019. Ruth was born on Dec. 25, 1934, in Colonial Heights to John David Jordan and Ruth Alma Pate Jordan. Ryan was the ever-loving, ever-caring son of Fonda Jo Newport and Thomas Asher Newport, and the father of Isabel (age 11) and Tristan Newport (age 5), of whom will be raised and forever-loved by their beautiful mother, Rene Verbeck. The Nine-0-Nine – a U.S. Army B-17G Flying Fortress bomber that was built in 1944 and had visited the Chesterfield airport several times – crashed Oct. 2 at Bradley International Airport near Hartford, Conn. The aircraft was destroyed by fire, with only a portion of a wing and the tail remaining. In the wake of accident, the Collings Foundation suspended its flight operations and the Wings of Freedom Tour for the remainder of the 2019 season.
The Chesterfield Bar Association recently released the rankings of eight candidates who could fill the upcoming vacancy on the 12th Judicial Circuit Court District due to Judge T.J. Hauler’s retirement. Candidates were evaluated based on character, temperament, professional aptitude and experience. D. Gregory Carr and Jayne A. The Chesterfield County Police Department is investigating the death of a male infant whose remains were discovered in the area of the 21400 block of Rutledge Avenue on Thursday, Oct. 10, in Ettrick. While responding to the area of Rutledge Avenue to serve outstanding warrants, officers learned that the remains of an infant may have been recently buried at the location. Investigators responded and recovered the remains, which were transported to the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The investigation into this case is ongoing. A crash involving a blue Hyundai Elantra and a black Toyota Corolla took place at 2:09 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, on Iron Bridge Road near Starbucks and Beach Road.
