A dump truck spilled wood chips. (Billy Spivey) A dump truck crashed in the 11400 block of Nash Road on Tuesday, May 28. The truck overturned after the driver lost control around 1:30 p.m. Officials said the driver was able to get out of the vehicle on his own while rescuers were on the way. Some diesel fuel spilled, along with a load of wood chips. There were no injuries, and the driver was not charged. The road was closed for several hours for clean up.
Firefighters, medics and two hazardous materials teams responded to a chemical spill at the DuPont Spruance Plant at 5401 Jefferson Davis Highway on Saturday, June 1. “The incident began at 6:11 p.m. when 400 gallons of a flammable liquid spilled,” Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesman Jason Elmore said. “Workers around the area were evacuated.” The spill was contained and vapors suppressed, he said. There may have been some scary moments for motorists at the intersection of Iron Bridge Road and Deerfield Drive on May 28 when a school bus went out of control and crashed at 1:39 p.m. The bus “which did not have any students on it, was traveling east on Iron Bridge Road approaching the intersection with Deerfield Drive,” police spokeswoman Liz Caroon said. Chesterfield County Police last week identified a 16-year-old who was struck by a train near the 15900 block of Woods Edge Road at about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 8. Aaron Groome, of no permanent address, was walking south on the train tracks between Jefferson Davis Highway and Interstate 95 when he was fatally struck by a southbound train, police said.
