Robert Macon “Bob” Phillips Sr. died peacefully on Dec. 19, 2018, two weeks before his 100th birthday. Born in Emporia, he grew up in Petersburg and graduated from Petersburg High School. Bob earned his bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the University of Richmond and his doctorate from the Medical College of Virginia (now Virginia Commonwealth University). He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Bob practiced medicine in Chester for 37 years before retirement.
