Chesterfield County residents are invited to spend an evening outdoors with neighbors and police on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., for National Night Out, an annual event held across the country to strengthen neighborhood and police-community partnerships, while heightening crime- and drug-prevention awareness. The Chesterfield County Police Department recently held a kickoff event for this year’s National Night Out, and is looking for neighborhoods to register their parties this August. The Senate joined the House by giving final approval to a bill that would make smoking in a motor vehicle with passengers younger than 8 a violation punishable by a civil penalty of $100. Chesterfield Police have arrested a Chesterfield County Public Schools teacher’s aide in relation to the assault of an exceptional education student at Robious Middle School, 2701 Robious Crossing Drive, on Tuesday, Feb. 2. Police were notified of the incident on Friday, Feb. 5, after video of the assault was discovered on another faculty member’s cell phone. The assault was captured on video by another exceptional education student, who happened to be handling the phone at the time of the incident. Police responded to a robbery at the Broadwater Townhomes at 1:30 a.m. last Monday. The adult victim stated he was robbed of clothing and personal items. The victim was able to provide police with a suspect vehicle description. A short time later an officer observed the suspect car pull into a residential driveway near Chester Road and Curtis Street. The driver, Devon Shaquil Williams, 20, of the 9000 block of Omaha Street in Chesterfield, Va., fled the area on foot and was subsequently arrested after a police K-9 tracked his location. Charges are pending.
Police have arrested two suspects in relation to a robbery that occurred at the Circle K at 11800 Ivey Mill Rd. at about 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30. Police said a man, who was armed with a handgun, entered the business and demanded money, cigarettes and lottery tickets. After receiving the items, the suspect fled. On December 27, 2015 at approximately 9:30 p.m. a Chesterfield County Police Officer observed a Mercedes sedan traveling at a high rate of speed in the 15700 block of Woods Edge Road. The officer attempted to stop the Mercedes which sped away from the scene traveling north on Woods Edge Road. A short time later the Mercedes lost control and struck a Nissan sedan traveling south on Woods Edge Road. The Mercedes came to rest in the ditch in the 14400 block of Wood Edge Road. Police are seeking two suspects who placed skimming devices on two ATMs in Chesterfield County. On Wednesday, Dec. 2, police responded to the SunTrust Bank branch at 13001 Hull Street Road where a skimming device was found by a customer. As the customer removed her card from the ATM, the skimming device came off. The customer then alerted the bank. Surveillance cameras captured images of two suspects, a female and a male, when they returned to the ATM to attempt to remove the device. Police have arrested a man who transported two female victims to Chesterfield for the purposes of prostitution. At about 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, police responded to the InTown Suites at 11551 Greenspring Road (near Huguenot Road and Robious Road) for a reported robbery. During the investigation, police learned the 17-year-old robbery victim and an adult female had been brought to Chesterfield County from the Tidewater area for the purposes of forced prostitution. Police are searching for a man who robbed the Raceway at 5600 Jefferson Davis Highway at about 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8. No one was injured during the incident. Police said the business was not yet open when an employee saw a man outside seeking assistance. When the employee acknowledged the man, he displayed a weapon, threatened the employee and forced his way into the business. Once inside, the suspect took cash.
