The scent of cinnamon and apples filled the air up and down Iron Bridge Road, as the copper kettles placed over roaring fires, bubbled its tantalizing treasure of apple butter. It’s Saturday and members of Trinity United Methodist Church, located Ironbridge and Greenyard Roads are making apple butter to benefit a good cause. Making apple butter is a tradition that began in 1908, when the Houchin family received their first copper kettle, delivered on a boat from the Kanawha River in West Virginia where the family was residing. The Houchin family began making apple butter in that copper kettle and…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. I am kind of in the dog pound myself, since I appear to be late for this week’s column. I had bookend “weekend” football games for my birthday, one college and one professional, so I am pretty sure I wrote an extra article, but the Master says not so. However, just between the pack and me, the Master has had to eat his words in the past, maybe he is a bit hungry this week? Wink! I enjoy both types of games, but I just think the college games…

1. L.C. Bird 7-0 Cosby kept things interesting for a while in this game scoreboard wise, but were never really that close to scratching the armor of L.C. Bird. The Titans do get a feather in their cap for trailing by two scores deep into the fourth quarter, and for also, scoring on the vaunted Skyhawks first team defense. Otherwise, the game was business-as-usual for the Skyhawks who should cruise into the postseason with a 10-0 record with three extremely winnable games in George Wythe, Huguenot and James River. They should also cruise to the top seed in the 5A…
