Between 2:20 p.m. and 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, two females worked together to steal more than $1,000 worth of sunglasses from Sunglass Hut at Chesterfield Towne Center. Three fires, two local and one in Atlanta, caused seven people to have to be rescued and the fatality of another. All three of these fires appear to have had the same cause, unattended cooking, though the fire in Atlanta is still under investigation, but it was stated to have started in the kitchen. Hundreds of visitors roamed the revered grounds of Henricus Historical Park over the weekend, taking in the flavor of a 1611 setting. Historical re-enactors who protrayed blacksmiths, farmers, seamstresses, soldiers of Civil and Revolutionary wars and Native Americans and more, manned the period correct colonial buildings and Native American longhouses. There was a special treat for adventure seekers and history buffs, a visit from the replica ship Godspeed, which arrived from Jamestown. Chesterfield County’s student performance on state-mandated Standards of Learning reading and mathematics tests showed expected growth during the 2014-15 school year, increasing by 5 percentage points each and continuing to exceed state averages. Data released today by the Virginia Department of Education also show Chesterfield County Public Schools student pass rates increased in science, history and writing and put Chesterfield students ahead of state averages once again.
