Sue Patton and Betty Patton visitwith their mother, Susie Elliott, at Tyler’s Retreat almost daily. Mrs. Elliott celebrated her 106th birthday last weekend, August 1. She is the mother of nine children – three of her children have passed away. She is a grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother to many and loved by all. The Chesterfield United U13/ U14 Girls Soccer Team visited Montreal, Quebec, and Ottawa, Ontario, for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The girls played three international games and attended three World Cup games. The U13 girls are pictured here at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal where they watched No. 1 Germany defeat No. 3 France in a nail-biter.

The Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers program needs your help to solve a shooting into an occupied dwelling. On July 22, 2015, Chesterfield County Police were called to a residence off the 8700 block of Forest Hill Avenue in reference to a house being shot at. It was later determined that the possible suspects in this incident were previously at a nearby Circle K and were involved in a domestic assault incident. Two 14-year old boys are missing at sea from a fishing trip. As I watched this story, I felt that I had no choice but to weigh in on this tragedy. Cosby High School world history and human geography teacher and Chester resident Anne Canipe is continuing her world travels this week as she visits Tokyo and attends the 70th Anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima. Her trip to Asia followed her visit to San Francisco and attended a week-long World Project Based Conference in Napa Valley. Ted Salmon, who will be inducted into the Virginia High School Hall of Fame, graduated in 1968 from Meadowbrook High School, where he captained both the football and basketball teams and was selected as the school’s athlete of the year as a senior. Ecoff Elementary School recently completed its summer camp, which focused on TRAK’D, providing kids with hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and arts (STEAM). The camp is for pre-k through fifth grade children in Southern Chesterfield. “It was a high energy environment where science was fun and helped children grow confidence in STEM fields of study,” said Dr. LaChelle Waller, TRAK’D founder and executive director.
