Chester and Meadowdale libraries are taking part in a groundbreaking pilot program within the county to feed hungry children over the summer. The First Lady of Virginia, Dorothy McAuliffe, the Virginia Department of Health and No Kid Hungry are working together to get Virginia’s kids fed. Virginia libraries across the state have joined this project. Mrs. McAuliffe said that many barriers like extreme weather, transportation challenges and excessive red tape block many kids from getting the meals they need. Summer brings not only sunshine but special challenges for kids struggling with hunger. For kids in low-income families, hunger can be…

Ballistics tests revealed the bullet that stole this young child’s life to be a .40 caliber class, full metal jacket. Chesterfield detectives continue to ask for the public’s help with information on this heartbreaking case. The bullet appears to have been fired randomly into the air as a result of celebratory gunfire. We would like to remind the public that as of July…

When the storms hit Doswell last night, wouldn’t you know it, we were there. We took our students to King’s Dominion/Kingsfest, as a “fun” culmination to a week of hard work and heat. We all know that when it gets this hot that big storms are coming. This was the epitome of those storms. It started around dinnertime with a small storm. It was still raining, but we made our way over to the amphitheatre, where Tenth Avenue North was performing. Three songs later, they stopped the concert, stated that storms were coming and evacuated everyone to the pavilions. We…
Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. As I have stated in past articles, Max has very bad arthritis and has recently been diagnosed with blood pressure and heart issues, as well. So the number of meds he is on has tripled. I only mention this since I believe they have had an impact on his recent change in behavior. Max, for a long time, has slept on the far side of my bed on a big, super soft mattress, which in my opinion would be great for his sore hips, however, he has recently decided…
Key pieces of Governor Terry McAuliffe’s 2015 “New Virginia Economy” legislative agenda are among the nearly 800 pieces of legislation that take effect today. From reforming workforce development and transportation planning to enhancing economic development and standing up for Virginia veterans, the Governor’s legislative accomplishments represent his efforts to lay a foundation for the new Virginia economy. “Growing and diversifying Virginia’s economy requires smart policy changes that strengthen our economic infrastructure and enhance our Commonwealth’s standing as the best place to locate and grow a…
Trio Alarm agrees to cancel contracts and provide refunds to affected Virginia consumers Attorney General Mark R. Herring announced today that he has reached a settlement with Trio Alarm, LLC (Trio Alarm), a Wisconsin-based seller of home security systems, for alleged violations of the Virginia Consumer Protection Act (VCPA) and the state’s “bait and switch” statute. Trio Alarm allegedly used door-to-door sales to target consumers displaying competitors’ security system yard signs in order to trick customers, particularly older Virginians, into entering long-term contracts they either didn’t want or didn’t need. Under the terms of the settlement, Virginia consumers who were…
