Henricus Historical Park has officially unveiled the details of the inaugural Hops in the Park Harvest Festival that will take place on November 14. To the editor: Should the confederate flag appear on the WELCOME sign for Chester? Is it a symbol of welcome? I have nothing against the sons or daughters of the Confederacy. The Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers program is asking for your help this week to solve a shooting case. On June 11, 2015 at approximately 11:30 p.m., police responded to West Road due to shots being fired in the area. While on scene, additional calls for service came in from the area of the Stevens Hollow and Rolling Wood apartment complexes, also referencing shots fired. Throughout the course of the investigation, police discovered a moving vehicle was struck by a bullet. The driver of the vehicle was grazed by that bullet, but, thankfully, not seriously injured. Homes were also struck by bullets in Ashley Village on Sexton Drive and Kim Drive.…

I am going to attempt to use information from three fires to glean learning points that will hopefully prepare you, in the event of a future fire. The fires that I will use are as follows: the wind-driven fire in Corolla, NC, that destroyed three buildings; a single-family dwelling fire in eastern Henrico that claimed the life of one and critically injured another and an Indiana house fire, where the homeowners were trapped because they could not escape through the narrow windows in their home. Proud grandmother and Chester resident Nancy B. Woolridge recently celebrated the accomplishments of her two grandsons. Woolridge’s grandsons Bob and Jack Krudewig were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on June 6. Bob completed the requirements in August 2012 and Jack completed the requirements in June 2014, but they opted to celebrate the achievement together. Both are members of Boy Scout Troop 613, sponsored by First Lutheran Church in Longview, TX. Bob attends Tarleton University in Stephensville, TX. Jack will attend the University of Colorado, Boulder in the fall.
Nearly 50 youth archers, ages 8-20, participated in the Junior Olympic Archer Development Club (JOAD) Summer Kick-Off Tournament held recently sponsored by Chesterfield Golden Arrow Archers (CGAA). James Hagen Jessee came in first in the Basic Compound Bowman Male division with a total score of 391 points.
