Families from the Enon Elementary School found out last month in order for their strong desire to have the elementary school prototype design to be implemented on the current school footprint. The existing school will need to be torn down. That demolition work will begin this summer. To accommodate the demolition work and the associated school construction that will begin this summer. Enon Elementary students will be housed on the Marguerite Christian Elementary campus during the 2016-17 school year. Ron and Nancy Clevenger live in Farmer City, Ill., but have strong connections to Chesterfield and the part it played in the Civil War. Their relative, Lewis Hurley, a Union soldier, was killed during the five-day Battle of Proctor’s Creek. The couple visited Chesterfield three years ago after visiting Richmond Battlefield Park, where they thought they may get information on Ron’s ancestor. Castlewood, located at the corner of Iron Bridge and Krause roads, was built in sections and it began as a church, a home to several families, a bank, and most recently, before renovations began, the Chesterfield Historical Society home office. The original building, the center, was erected for and used as the parsonage for Central Methodist Church, which stood in front of it, according to a statement of an old inhabitant. In a unanimous vote by the Board of Supervisors, Chesterfield County will reduce the maximum cash proffer fee from $18,966 per dwelling to $9,400. The board voted on the issue last Wednesday on the recommendation by the newly appointed county administrator, Joseph Casey. This is the first reduction to cash proffers in 25 years. With other revenue sources, Casey said there is enough revenue from cash proffers, which are to be used to offset the cost of impacts that residential developments have on public infrastructure, to fund the school system’s 5-year capital improvement plan. Nine Chesterfield County schools are scheduled to participate in the upcoming International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Two are from the Village News readership area, Bellwood Elementary and Elizabeth Davis Middle School. International Walk to School Day raises awareness about the benefits of walking and biking, as well as what its proponents, the Partnership for a Walkable America consider a “need” for safe walking routes to schools. Chesterfield County Police are urging drivers to be aware of a speed limit change on Iron Bridge Road. The speed limit on Iron Bridge Road from Chesterfield Meadows Drive to just west of its intersection with Landfill Drive is now 45 mph. Previously, the speed limit on this stretch of Iron Bridge Road was 55 mph. Police are reminding drivers to always be aware of and abide by the posted speed limit.

Merlee’s Moods, an art exhibit opening this week at the Chester Library, will give the viewer insight on the Haida and Tlingit people of the Pacific Northwest and their Native-style art. The original brush and India ink drawings of the complex spiritual and animal art is highly stylized and symbolic that is fun and very meaningful. Annually, CCHASM coordinates their Thanksgiving Gift Meal Package Program to assist those in our community who might otherwise not have the resources to celebrate this special holiday. This is their largest program of the year. With generous donations from schools, businesses, churches, individuals, and agencies, CCHASM was able to assist 2,221 families (over 8,500 adults and children) with gift packages and gift cards for Thanksgiving 2015. Starting October 3, CCHASM began accepting client reservations and pledges.
