The John Rolfe Players preformed in Chester and Chesterfield from the 1950s to the late 1970s. The force behind the group was Dottie and her husband Larry Armstrong. The performance poster above was typical for the troupe. Elizabeth Matthews, one of the original Chesterfield Center for the Arts supporters,  said the John Rolfe Players sparked the idea of a playhouse approximately 60 years ago. The Armstrongs would be proud of the development of the Arts Center as the building is on the cusp of being built.

I know that I wrote endless columns in this very paper about our adventures in parenting this delightful boy from tantrums in the Chester Library to singing sweetly to the Disney “Cars” soundtrack in our minivan. Then there was the birth of my precious flower. My…

The victim discovered her wallet was missing when her bank contacted her about unusual purchases being made with her credit card. When detectives looked into the incident, they learned a white male…

In my years as a paramedic/firefighter, I responded to my fair share of heroin overdoses. The amount of the drug taken and the time of our arrival after the overdose had everything to do with a good outcome versus a bad one. Though it was a problem in my days of riding an engine, ladder, or ambulance, heroin overdoses have become pandemic, in our day. We live in a society where people have cocooned themselves in their homes, oblivious to everything happening around them. My wife read me a story from Huntington, W. Va., where 27 people had overdosed on…
