The Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers program needs your help to solve a prescription fraud case. On Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, at approximately 10 p.m., two women approached the pharmacy counter of the Walgreens on Buford Road and said they were there to pick up a prescription for a family member. The pharmacist on duty explained that the prescription, which had been received the previous day, was found to be fraudulent and was not filled. The two women, along with a third female, left the store without incident. All three were black females, and clear pictures of them can be…

It is bad enough to suffer a kitchen fire, with most caused by unattended cooking. The problem is exacerbated when a person gets burned, attempting to remove the burning pot or pan from the kitchen, or from the stove to the sink. The statistics have not gone down, if anything, they have gone up, where kitchen fires are concerned. In other words, 3.7 out of every 10 residential fires occur in the kitchen. I write a lot about possibility and probability. The possibility of a fire occurring in your home is always present. The probability of a fire in your…

L.C. Bird running back Shedrick McCall (6-1, 245) pulled in his first of what should be many college offers this week when Old Dominion extended a scholarship to him. A recent visit to James Madison University is the first of many planned visited for the rising senior – he has been invited to visit the campuses of Purdue, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Richmond, East Carolina and North Carolina State, according to this father. McCall was primarily the reserve running back for coach David Bedwell in 2015 behind senior J.B. Wright. On just 81 carries, McCall rushed for 733…
Former Matoaca standout Aaron Monts attended Richmond Christian last year. No matter what school he attended, there was little doubt that he’d be a college-level running back. He committed to Virginia State this past week. “The atmosphere and scholarship this there,” Monts said. “There’s a great chance of playing early.” Monts was an integral part of Pat Manuel’s offense in 2013 as a part of a backfield by committee where he played solidly. Then, the athlete transferred to Richmond Christian’s program in 2014. “My grades went up tremendously and I continued my development as a running back,” said Monts. The…
Matoaca alum and Yellow Jackets senior Travis Lodge started the season hot. Over the past couple of weeks, he has gotten even hotter. Both the ODAC and D3baseball.com have taken notice of his outstanding play. On March 28, Lodge was named Old Dominion Athletic Conference player of the week. In that span of seven days, the opposition hardly had a chance. The former Warriors collected 11 hits over 16 at-bats, good for a .688 batting average. He launched four home runs, scored 11 runs and knocked in 12. His slugging percentage was an eye-popping 1.438. To put that in perspective,…
