Hello and welcome back to the subdued world of the Dogpound. I had another article already written and ready to send to my Master when there was a life event that interrupted that process. My younger brother, Kenny, passed away on March 31. He would have been 63 in July. COPD finally caught up with him. He never fully recovered from his quadruple bypass surgery that he had about two years ago. This is what I call the “curse of the Wilson’s” It seems all of the relations on my Dad’s side had complications with their heart in their early…

By Vernon Freeman Jr. Virginia ABC (Alcohol Beverage Control) celebrated the grand opening of their newest store Friday, located at 13113 River’s Bend Blvd. in the River’s Bend Shopping Center in Chester. The Chester store is the third ABC store to open in the state in 2016, bringing the total number in the Commonwealth to 358. Virginia ABC officials said the new location makes it easier for customers traveling along Route 10 in eastern Chesterfield County. “I think Chesterfield residents have been waiting for this store’s arrival for some time and will respond positively to having a new store in…

Several large birds resembling eagles circled the site and slowly began to land, they surrounded the carrion and began to feast, and the vulture clean-up crew had arrived. Warts are caused by an infection of the skin with the human papilloma virus (HPV). They can occur on any part of the body, but are commonly seen on the hands or feet. The virus can be transmitted from one site on the body to another and from person to person by direct and indirect contact. Common warts are generally benign growths, but can cause problems when they become irritated, painful, or cosmetically unfavorable. Local irritation of the wart and cosmetics are the most common reasons individuals will have them removed. Warts on the hands can be flat (flat warts)…
So, you want fresh vegetables but you do not have the space, you live alone, or you have limited time? I have a solution to your garden dilemma, containers. Yes, the same containers gardeners use for ornamentals can also be used for vegetables. Remember, whether it is a tomato or a petunia, it is still a plant and both have the same basic needs: oxygen, water, light, heat, and nutrients. Plant breeders and seed companies are developing varieties specifically for containers so do your research before purchasing.
