Swartz incorporates gardening and yoga into her classes

As a gardener and environmentalist, Jennifer Swartz brings her love of nature into the classroom. She is an “exceptional education” teacher at Curtis Elementary. After the school received a grant a year and a half ago, a sensory garden was created. The garden also boasts vegetable and herb and butterfly and bee gardens, Swartz said. “The students like the gardens in general, and they like planting in the garden,” she said. “They really enjoy when we’re able to go outside and just do even writing or reading or math.” Swartz is the faculty coordinator for the Curtis Conservationists Club, which…

Chesterfield County elementary school students made 450 clay poppies that were planted in the lawn of the old Chesterfield Courthouse for a special ceremony Sunday, Nov. 11, symbolizing the significance of this Veterans Day. Bon Secours plans imaging facility at John Tyler CC: Hospital asks for help from the public

Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center would like to open a CT scanning facility on the campus of John Tyler Community College in Chester. The hospital, which is based at 13710 St. Francis Blvd. in Midlothian, submitted a letter of intent on Aug. 31 to file a certificate of public need with the state Department of Health’s Office of Licensure and Certification.
